Ukraine Now Accepting Dogecoin Donations, Says Vice PM

Ukraine is collecting every digital asset it can get to financially support its defense against the Russian invasion. Having amassed millions of dollars in crypto already, the nation’s Vice Prime Minister has announced that they are now accepting Solana and Dogecoin contributions. With this, Ukraine has opened donation addresses for 6 different cryptocurrencies, with possibly more to come. Calling All Crypto Holders In a tweet on Tuesday, Vice PM Mykhailo Fedorov gave thanks to the Solana Foundation and staking platform “Everstake” for forming a joint initiative raising money for Ukraine. He provided a link to a Solana address, which currently holds a balance of 4,305 SOL. That’s about $430,500 at today’s price. Solana is the 8th largest cryptocurrency, currently leading Cardano with a market cap of $31.8 billion. It emerged into the crypto mainstream last year and is primarily known for its incredibly fast transaction throughput thanks to its proof-of-history mechanism. Fedorov then tweeted about Dogecoin – the world’s leading memecoin – on Wednesday morning. Though the crypto was originally created as a joke in 2014, it has become one of the three most well-recognized coins thanks to its brand. The official claimed that Dogecoin has now “exceeded” the Russian Ruble in value, before presenting a public Doge address for gathering more donations. Though not quite correct, Bitcoin – the largest cryptocurrency – has, in fact, exceeded the ruble this week. Russia’s currency collapsed in recent days, with international sanctions destroying demand for their products. In addition, the Vice PM directly called on Doge creator Billy Markus and Tesla CEO Elon Musk to support the Ukrainian army. Though no word has come from the latter, Markus claims to have sent some funds, calling the Doge community a “caring and passionate bunch”. So far, the DOGE wallet has received 663 transactions and holds over 426,000 Doge worth about $56,000. Fedorov has been extremely vocal and direct in calling for action from major public figures during the conflict – especially crypto people. He even targeted Elon Musk with a request to quit “colonizing Mars” and instead offer his Starlink satellite to keep Ukraine’s emergency services active. Musk complied.
