Netflix Involved in Comic Books? This was my first thought when I read some preview panels from an issue of Hack/Slash: Resurrection (something I picked up on a whim simply because I thought the cover was cool - it's pictured below) for an upcoming Netflix series entitled The Magic Order, which was intriguing. I must confess, at first I thought the comic was simply marketing for a Netflix original TV Show, but no this is a full fledged comic production. While The Magic Order is published by Image Comics (as is Hack/Slash and something else I'm currently reading called Sex Criminals) it is, according to Wikipedia, the "property" of Netflix. Hack/Slash: Resurrection #7 - What led me to The Magic Order What is The Magic Order? Well, I don't want to spoil anything and - to be frank - I don't even have all the answers. The first issue of this comic sold out incredibly fast, my local comic shop did not have it on shelves and they are unable to order it for me as, apparently, it's already out of print. I was able to snag issue #2, however (pictured above.) Eventually I'll probably just shell out the $12 to purchase it on Amazon. The comic follows different families of Magicians (they do *not* perform stage magic) that live amongst normal folk and seem to be at odds with each other. It parallels the Harry Potter series in some ways, but it definitely does not hold its charm and flippancy. In other words, it's pretty dark and not for kids. I'd also draw some parallels to both The Invisibles (a comic series by Grant Morrison which heavily influenced The Matrix films) and The Bone Clocks (a novel by the Author of Cloud Atlas.) My copies of The Invisibles and The Bone Clocks What Do You Think? Have you already started reading The Magic Order? What else would you compare it to? Are you familiar with The Invisibles or The Bone Clocks? (Both of which I absolutely love.) Let me know in the comments below! And, as always, I love receiving reading recommendations! Pinging both @blewitt & @cryplectibles as they've been amazing resources during my first deep dive into the world of comics. They both have very informative blogs!
