Crypto cashback: Revolut's new metal debit card pays you to pay in crypto

Those looking to spend their cryptocurrencies (I’m sure they’re out there somewhere) have a new way to do so, now in a shiny metal finish…   Revolut’s new premium card (simply dubbed, Metal) allows you to claim back on the currency of your choosing, including two of the five cryptocurrencies currently supported by the start-up. Users can get cash back in BTC, ETH, USD or EUR; Obviously this ‘reward’ isn’t correlated directly to the amount you spend but rather 1% of that (outside of Europe), meaning if you spend 1000 ETH, you get 1 ETH back… In the EU however, the percentage is reduced (rather dramatically) to 0.1% due to lower processing fees. Metal also includes a concierge service which will book such things as travel and festival tickets on your behalf. (What’s that? You do your own booking? … Pfft, loser) Revolut is an alternative banking solution offering every service of a traditional bank, digitally, supporting cryptocurrencies as well as fiat, alongside foreign exchange services and trading and investment support. Revolut’s cards work via Visa and MasterCard and the company gain a fraction of the processing fee every time you use it, in Europe these fees are much lower, hence why the cashback ‘reward’ percentage is lower in the EU. A subscription to Metal will set you back €13.99 ($15) per month or €135 ($140) per year; making it viable if you typically spend $4000+ via cryptocurrencies per year... A spokesperson for Revolut told The Next Web. “We see Revolut Metal as an essential lifestyle product for people of all ages and incomes, ranging from digital nomads to everyday working professionals … We are absolutely convinced that Revolut Metal will be the exclusive card of the future, and an absolute must for travellers worldwide.”.
